Diversity Equity Inclusion
Equity vs. Excellence
Equity vs. Excellence
Dragonetti Berlin tour 2024
I asked my daughter in what way children at the school thought of themselves as unequal, superior or inferior to each other. She thought that for boys it was sport, for girls music. That is encouraging, and a tribute to the school as there are many sillier and more dangerous measures by which children stratify each other today – B Block parent.
The new school website urges we should strive for equality. The trouble with that is that when talented children strive, they are likely to achieve not equality, but its opposite, excellence. Excellence is what parents want for their children, in whichever direction our children’s nature and interests lean, but excellence is an embarrassment, an obstacle to devotees of Equity. It needs to be suppressed, as excellence is achieved in different proportions in different activities by different groups in society. That is good natural diversity, in contrast to the forced identity diversity of the DEI zealots.
Healthy competition motivates children. In a school like the Dragon, with so many activities on offer and setting in many subjects, all can find a subject or activity where they can shine.

Equity is Equality for extremists
Equity, the word for those who find that Equality is not Socialist enough. The distinction is often portrayed as between equality of opportunity against equality of outcome “equity”. All must be brought to the same place. This understanding of Equality shows how it is deified. It is the chief god in the pantheon of Progressivism, the religion that imagines it has emerged as a higher awareness above all religions. If equality is invoked, Progressives hope that criticism will fall away, and any remaining dissent can be vilified with their manipulated words of condemnation.
The Equity of EDI is also sadly not the traditional Equity of English law, a branch of law that evolved to complement our Common Law. As one recent legal textbook puts it: “the word “equity” “is not a synonym for ‘general fairness’ or ‘natural justice'”, but refers to “a particular body of rules that originated in a special system of courts.”
Mckinsey & Co give this approving definition of EDI Equity: While equality assumes that all people should be treated the same, equity takes into consideration a person’s unique circumstances, adjusting treatment accordingly so that the end result is equal. The unique circumstances, however, turn out in practice to be pre-defined sacred minority groups. The assumption of Equity is that there should in effect be no diversity.
An EDI prescription for School Equity:
Music is where there is obscene inequality at school. Some children, the oppressed victims, are tone deaf and unmusical, while others, the oppressive exploiters, enacting whiteness, love music, practice hard and play fine (dead white men’s) music.
If we are to be serious about Equity, we must stamp down on music. Nothing promotes inequity as much as individual music lessons. Otherwise we are in danger of children developing the far right qualities of excellence and individuality.

How does EDI want us to celebrate our child’s achievement at the end of the school day?
NOT Mary, you played a beautiful, moving piece of music on your violin today / you have got a better than average (unequal) mark in your French test this time, because you spent extra time learning your vocab, well done.
BUT Comrade Mary, you upheld the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion in accordance with official DEI commitment, you are an example to other Progressive children, rooting out wrong think and marching forward to the New Order of Utopia.
From 8am when I drop my daughter off at school in my small, old car, surrounded by newer larger SUVs, I don’t think she encounters inequality until I collect her at the end of the school day, again in my small old car, among newer and larger cars. Children wear the same uniform, they are under the same school rules, and at school they spend equally the same amount of money, nil. They are taught the same lessons by the same teachers, equally. Where is the need for the school to commit to equality?

Usain Bolt makes a mockery of racial equity at London 2012, winning for Jamaica. The winner comes from a nation of under 3 million. Where are the 1.4 billion Indians and 1.4 billion Chinese?
The mind virus of the idolisation of Equality
Mario Laghos, journalist, The Critic: To turn our country around from the spiralling descent caused by idolisation of Equality, it will take a commitment to excellence, heroism and being brave enough to tell the truth.
The question of whether tolerance and equality are desirable must be asked — and answered. The Olympics, to give one example, explicitly rejects equality, compassion and tolerance in place of excellence, heroism and hard work. In this event, the limits of human physical accomplishment are advanced. For this reason, the Olympics could not be invented today.
At their core, conservatives believe in inequality, which is the inevitable outcome of free will and human genetic variation.
EDI is not concerned about discrimination against certain groups, like Jews
Katherine Birbalsingh, Head of Michaela School, Wembley:
Guilt about privilege can embed indulgent entitlement rather than gratitude.
Michaela School in multicultural North West London is very different from ours, in important and interesting ways. It is strict, while the Dragon is liberal. Most State Schools could not combine a liberal atmosphere with academic excellence because it requires more self-motivation. While Dragon children come from families that value education, reading and are highly-motivated to study, inner City State School children are much less likely to have these advantages. They can fall prey to destructive tendencies, which include gang membership, but also the disadvantages that EDI-focused adults put in their way: victimhood, self-pity, low expectations. Michaela School’s policy is the opposite of the Equity of EDI. No indulgence is given at Michaela to children of ethnic minorities, they are challenged to take control of their lives and strive to succeed. A unifying love of Britain is inculcated into children of all backgrounds.
Michaela is ranked the best school in the country, by progress. Progress not Progressivism. Michaela’s ethos is firmly opposed to Progressivism, hence the exceptional progress of its pupils.
Being British and academic excellence at Michaela
School and University is meant to be about challenging people and making them think. And now it is about teaching everyone to think in this group way, where nobody ever questions any of those views.
So, if no parent looking at the school would say that what it needs is more diversity and more equality, why on earth would anyone propose Diversity, Inclusion, Equity?
It has nothing to do with the needs of the school or the children, or the wishes of parents. Proponents of DEI are propelled by faith and fear. DEI attempts to make a moral mission, a religion, out of destroying long-established norms in Western Civilization. They do this as a consequence of adopting Equality as an unquestioned god. However, while equality is unattainable, the destruction of our good working norms, in the process of trying to reach the ever-receding horizon of Equality, can already be seen to be having disastrous consequences, especially for poorer people.
The sharp decline in the proportion of children in stable married homes has had a dramatically damaging effect on the lowest-achieving groups in society. This is a result of sixty years of liberalisation of attitudes driven by Progressives, the people who today push DEI. Middle-class people have children within marriage, but middle-class Progressives congratulate themselves on their enlightened promotion of liberal lifestyles which have had such a devastating effect on less advantaged groups who sadly find it more difficult to exercise self-control, within a culture that is no longer judgemental towards self-destructive behaviour. Here is an uncomfortable truth that Progressives are just incapable of confronting in their hunger for shallow self-righteousness: much of the discrimination that they are driving out of our culture has been a strong force for equality, cohesion and self-advancement for the weakest.
Do not remove a fence if you do not understand why it was put there in the first place – Ancient farming adage.
Those who fall for the superficially worthy mission of knocking down all cultural norms and preferences, in the name of EDI, have a shallow understanding of human nature and the practical workings of human society. Furthermore they are not honest with us about the new discriminations and injustices that they are setting up to replace the old. Revolutionary new social orders have a track record of being more dogmatic and cruel than those they replace. The liberation of the Bastille leads swiftly to the Reign of Terror.
